Season 7 Episode 13: Quiet in the Chaos: Rooted Like a Mighty Oak (Part 2)
In Part Two of our Quiet in the Chaos meditation series, we deepen the practice by exploring the image of a mighty oak tree — rooted, steady, and nourished by what is life-giving. Meditation, whether drawn from Zen traditions of present-moment awareness or the contemplative stillness of Christian prayer, invites us to be grounded in the here and now. Like a tree whose roots hold firm through shifting seasons, you’ll learn to remain steady even when life’s winds blow hard. This session will help you strengthen your inner stability, reconnect to what sustains you, and carry that grounded strength into your daily life.

Session 2 — Rooted Like a Tree
Read by Craig Robertson
Welcome back to Quiet in the Chaos, a three-part guided meditation series designed to help you find peace, stability, and Love in the middle of life’s most difficult seasons. Whether you are facing conflict in your family, uncertainty about the future, or the weight of transition, these meditations give you the space to slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect with what is steady and unshakable within you.
I’m your host, Craig Robertson. I am a Mississippi divorce attorney, and I have seen firsthand how stillness and presence can help people who are experiencing disruption in their families — and I believe it can help you, too.
In Part 1, we learned to be still in the midst of family conflict, anchoring ourselves in our breath and the present moment. In this session, Part 2, we will explore the image of a tree — firmly rooted, steady, and grounded even when the winds of life are shifting all around. We’ll use the breath and body awareness to deepen our sense of stability, learning how to stand firm without becoming rigid.
Whether you are brand new to meditation or returning to a familiar practice, this session is an opportunity to connect to the deeper foundation of Love holding you steady, no matter what comes.
Our hope is this meditation will help you remember that, like a tree, you can be flexible in the wind and yet remain unshaken at your core.

Introduction
Meditation is not about forcing the mind to be quiet.
It’s about learning to notice what is here without getting swept away by it.
In Zen, there’s a teaching of becoming the mountain — still, steady, unshaken.
In other contemplative traditions, we are invited to root ourselves in what is good and life-giving. Like a mighty oak tree.
When life’s storms blow through, it’s natural to feel your branches bending and your roots straining in the wind.
The ground may feel less certain beneath you, and the air around you may swirl with change. Yet even in the fiercest weather, the deep roots you’ve grown can still hold fast, drawing strength from the quiet, unseen network beneath the surface.
And like a tree standing among others in the forest, you are not alone — the support of Love and connection can help you remain steady until the skies clear and the sunlight returns.
Today, we will practice grounding ourselves like that tree —
steady in the wind,
nourished and anchored by Love.
Preparation (Note: This is the beginning of the mediation)
Take a moment now to choose a quiet place where you can rest undisturbed. This is your time — a pause in the noise, a space where nothing is required of you except to be here.
Find a position that feels natural — perhaps sitting in a chair with your feet touching the earth, or resting on a cushion where your body feels supported. It doesn’t really matter, and long as you are comfortable.
Let your hands fall naturally into your lap, palms resting in ease.
You may close your eyes, or allow your gaze to soften, without focusing on anything in particular.
Feel your breath moving in and out… gentle, steady, unhurried. Notice the temperature….the pace…..the sound…
Sense the ground beneath you, holding you completely.
In this moment, there is nowhere else you need to go, nothing else you need to do. We are arriving here together, just as we are. You are welcome here. This is your time…. For rest…..to be present, right here and right now
Let’s begin.
Take a deep breath, in through your nose… (inhale sound)
And slowly release it through your mouth. (exhale sound)
Now soften your jaw, and release your shoulders, let them drop gently away from your ears.
Let your arms be heavy, like willow branches after the rain.
(Pause 10 seconds)
Feel the base of your body supported —
by the floor,
the cushion,
the earth beneath you.
Notice how the support allows you to soften even more.
Imagine you are a mighty oak tree, standing in the forest
You have deep roots…… strong, steady, ancient and natural.
No matter how hard the wind blows,
No matter what is going on around you……
your roots keep you…Grounded.
Upright.
(Pause 10 seconds)
Breathe deeply,
drawing stability up from the earth with each inhale. (inhale sound)
Let any tension flow down the roots and into the earth with each exhale. (exhale sound)
Inhale……… Be still.
Exhale………Held by Love.
Be still.
Held by Love.
(Pause 10 seconds)
If thoughts about conflict arise, picture them as leaves rustling in the wind —
they make noise, they move, but you remain steady.
You are a mighty oak.
Rooted.
Present.
(Pause 20 seconds)
You are a mighty oak.
Rooted.
Present.
Aware
(Pause 10 seconds)
Stay here for several breaths,
feeling your connection to the ground,
your stability in the moment,
and the steady presence of Love, that is holding you.
(Pause 10 seconds)
Be still.
Held by Love.
(Pause 10 seconds)
You are a mighty oak.
Rooted.
Present.
Aware
(Pause 20 seconds)
Great.
Now.
When you’re ready, begin to invite gentle movement back into your body — perhaps a slow sway, like a tree softly rocking in a light breeze after the storm has passed. Let your fingers and toes awaken, as if the smallest branches are stretching toward the sun.. And when it feels right, slowly open your eyes, carrying with you the quiet strength and presence you’ve cultivated here.
Thank you for practicing.
The light inside of me, honors the light inside of you…………Namaste
Conclusion
As we have come to the end of this meditation, take a moment to notice how your body feels, how your mind has steadied, and how your heart carries the awareness of Love and grounding.
Meditation is a practice — a journey rather than a destination — and the more you return to it, the more your inner stability deepens, like roots of a mighty tree growing stronger over time.
